they can be polished up to cover damage and they even sell heel bottoms that you could add to the heel to level that out…all in all a very expensive pair of boots for a cheap price….you will not be disappointed in the quality and softness of the leather…shaft of boot is about 12″ tall…even with the wear, they are still in pretty good shape, a bit of TLC and they will be looking great..size is a 7M
