Imperial Glass:NuCut #537 Large Celery Dish
$24.99Imperial Glass introduced its NuCut line in 1914 so that ordinary folks could buy pretty glass that imitated the expensive American Brilliant glass favored by the very rich. This celery dish is in the harder to find #537 pattern and is a celery, though it’s wide enough to be used for bread/rolls or even as an ice cream roll tray. Sawtooth edge and lots of hobstars predominate in this pattern. It measures 11 1/8″ long, 6″ wide, and 2 1/8″ high. . It glows a soft yellow when exposed to UV light, and it’s marked NuCut in raised letters in the center. No Chips or Cracks..

Heavy, clear, fine deep cut, scalloped sawtooth lip radiant starburst nappie with flat thumb rest on the handle and a smooth rounded area under the handle to support your grip. The secondary motif is a diamond cut bar similar to the Hartley, also known as Paneled Diamond Cut which was made by Richards & Hartley Glass Co., circa 1887 and United States Glass Co., circa 1891. The paneled diamond cut separates the starbursts and is repeated on the handle. Size: 5.5″ in diameter, 7″ across to the outside of the handle. Excellent condition. The nappy has one tooth chipped on the lip and some slight wear marks on the high cut edges. This piece is clear and has crisp edges. Marked: NUCUT.
Imperial Glass Corporation was one of the largest and finest of all the great hand-made glass houses in America. 1901 – On November 7, 1901 affidavits were filed with the Secretary of State of West Virginia for incorporation of the Imperial Glass Company. On Nov. 14, 1901 incorporation was approved. On December 19, 1901 corporation papers were filed in Ohio County Court House. (Book #5, Folio 132)
1904 – Actual production commenced with Furnace #1 being fired up for production on January 27, 1904. Furnace #2 was fired up for production March 24, 1904.
When filing for registration of a mark, it is required to state on the application when the mark was first put into use. When one desires to suggest a time frame for usage, it is this initial date one should go by, NOT the date when the application was filed or the date registration approval was granted. 1911- On the registration application for the NUCUT mark, Imperial claimed to have been using this mark as early as 1911. The word ‘trade mark’ on the ‘tail’ appears in advertising and catalogs. The NUCUT mark was removed from all moulds c.1932.

This pattern was originally made by US Glass Company in the earyl 1900s. The cup have ridges on the handle.
I believe they were made by The Imperial Glass Company or the US glass co.- but am not certain as they are unmarked. +
Measure 2 1/8 inches high X 2 7/8 inches diameter at top.
NO chips – cracks – stains. Possible minuscule signs of usage.
They are a pressed glass pattern with a fancy – slightly tilted horse shoe – diamonds – and starbursts.
