“After Dinner At The City Tavern of Philadelphia The 13th of July 1777, George Washington Invites the Marquis de Lafayette To Join His General Staff.”
“The allegoric border design or frieze by Restieau was taken from the carvings of the solid gold hilt of the sword of honor commissioned by the Congress of the United States and presented to General Lafayette in 1779”
“At the City Tavern in Philadelphia the 31st day of July, 1777, the Marquis de Lafayette meets General Washington for the first time. Thus begins (commences) a lifelong (for all of a life) friendship which will inspire Lafayette in his role of champion of political liberties in France and in other countries for the years to come.” A.R.
In very good used condition..with no chips or cracks, dings or dents. The plate comes in the original shipping box along with The Story of Plate 3, and information about the creation of the porcelain plate.
Measures: Approximately 8 1/2″ in diameter
To be called true hard-fire D’Arceau-Limoges a porcelain piece must be certified by final inspection for the following nine points of quality:
1. Whiteness
2. Thickness
3. Translucence
4. Molecular Density (Strength)
5. Unity of Glaze
Colors – each of the four separate colors must be exact and applied with sharp definition, neither muddy not vague. Every line must have a precise edge.
